Networking Project
Another assignment for this week (in addition to reviewing an AUP) was to create a Networking Project. Specifically, create a project that would demonstrate my understanding of computer networks.
While working on the project, I realized that I have mainly approached computers and other devices simply as a user, taking for granted the complex process that happens behind the scene and is maintained by someone else. This assignment has taught me how to appreciate those machines that I rely on so much.
In addition, I had a chance to look inside my own desktop computer; in fact, I did not have a choice after my husband simply disassembled the unit and asked me to come closer. This experiment proved to be useful - I now truly have a better picture of what goes on inside the machine once I power it up.
Overall, the following are the elements and definitions of the (very basic) computer networking that I learned while working on the assignment. Considering it was all new to me, I think I had a great start of my immersion into technology integration and computer networking.
1. Inside my desktop: the hard drive, the motherboard, the memory, and the CPU (central processing unit), plus numerous connecting cords and wires that connect every important element.
2. LAN, WAN, and the Internet - from the smallest unit of computer network to the global web.
3. New Terminology and Building Vocabulary:
4. My Office and Classroom - how are thing connected and working?
5. Where Do I go from there?
The following Prezi presentation provides the visual representations of the points stated above.
